Who Am I?
This will be my sixth year teaching in a classroom setting. I left the marketing/finance industries to become a teacher and have never loved anything more! Most recently I traveled the country teaching corporate finance and conducting merger and acquisition simulations for high-schoolers. I have taught Advertising and Sales, BIM, Entrepreneurship, Retailing & E-tailing, Marketing Dynamics, Printing and Imaging Technology I & II, and Sports & Entertainment Marketing at Round Rock. This will be my first year teaching Principals of Business, Marketing and Finance and I am excited to teach Freshman and Sophomores for the first time in 5 years! I will also teach Printing and Imaging Technology I & II (Dragon Printshop, with my partner in crime and Graphic Design Teacher, Sarah Sherrill) and Entrepreneurship, the capstone class for the Business Academy.
I graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science in Human Health, Performance and Recreation. I had the best seat in the house at all Baylor sporting events as I danced on the dance team for 4 years. I was able to witness 2 Olympic gold medals and the Lady Bears clinching an NCAA title but sadly missed the RGIII years. I also received my MBA from Baylor with concentrations in Marketing and Finance. Sic Em!
Besides business, my greatest passion in life is dance. I helped start the school's amazing hip hop club, Rock Revolution and also choreograph the school musical each year.
My hobbies include spending time with family/friends, reading, yoga, shopping, shopping, shopping and traveling. I love trying new restaurants in Round Rock and Austin and will always welcome any recommendation you may have to offer!
I am a life-long learner and am always taking some class or workshop. Last year I took a course in User Experience Design. This year I am honored to be a Guild Fellow, in partnership with The Teacher's Guild and IDEO. I will be researching and addressing equity through my fellowship and my classroom will benefit from lots of guidance in The Design Thinking principles as a result.
I never thought that I would be a high school teacher, but as I reflect on my life I realize that I have always been a teacher of some sort! I am a proud Round Rock High School grad and am THRILLED to be back at home. I was the co-creator of Dragon Nation, the campus' spirit council and I believe so deeply in the value of community. GO ROCK GO!
What Can You Expect From Me?
I believe that my classroom is a place of adventure and acceptance. I encourage exploration as I realize that your minds are much brighter and more creative than my own. I believe that my classroom is a place of purpose. You are not completing work for the sake of being busy but instead to learn, network and grow as students and as people. I will challenge you to overcome any preconceived notions about yourselves and others in order to reach deep to find the success that I can already see in you.
What Do I Expect From You?
I expect for you to PROFIT! We will focus on real-world learning in my classes. You will create various campaigns for real clients that you can include in your professional portfolio. Gone are the days where a college degree guarantees you the satisfying and high-paying job you may desire. You are only a few short years from entering a very real and competitive workforce so I would love for you to use your marketing classes to build your professional network and most importantly learn how to market yourself!
